Books Turned Movies: "Starship Troopers" by Robert A. Heinlein

So, when I was a little girl I saw the movie Starship Troopers and that movie rocked my world.  I would run around the house screaming, "Do you want to live forever?"  It is safe to say that I loved the movie and even now i look back at it thinking about my childhood.

A couple of weeks ago I watched the movie and I was wondering if the book is comedic like that.  I
mean, this movie is sort of a big fat joke.  I don't know what the director was aiming for but it came out hilarious.  A couple of weeks ago I decided to buy the book and see if it was the same.  Two words for you "Completely different".  Heinlein had the book published in 1959 and you can tell.  I don't mean that in a bad way.  The book is thought provoking, serious, and sociological.  The movie adaptation completely lost the heart and soul of it.  I don't think the quality of the movie had anything to do with the fact that it was made in 1997, and more to do with the vision of the director.  He kind of turned it into a muddled action/love story.

"Starship Troopers" was kind of hard to read at first.  Like a lot of Science Fiction novels it uses a lot of made up terms in the beginning, but once you kind figure out what everything is it is not hard to follow.  The main character of the book is Johnnie, a teenager from a rich family, that decides to serve "a term".  I'm about half way through with it and I really like it.

So far my favorite quote is this.

 "The noblest fate that a man can endure is to place his own body between his loved home and the war's desolation (page 96 in the kindle edition)."  

There is a lot of duality in the book.  If you like scifi, military, and action it is a very good read.  So far I give it four stars.

The Begining

 I woke up one morning and realized that I love books. I mean really really love books.  At long as it isn't badly written and full of grammatical errors I would read it whether it's a bestseller, unoriginal, or the the biggest piece of crap I've read in my life (sometimes I do pass on the especially crappy ones).  I'm only 20 but I've read hundreds and I only expect to read thousands more in my lifetime.  I believe that most authors deserve the chance to be read by someone.  So I started this blog.

I would like to think that I have read a little bit of everything (well, maybe not, but I'm always open to new genres).  I love a little bit of everything as long as it's good.

The purpose of this blog is to provide not only reviews, but give budding and undiscovered authors feedback.  I guess that's only part of the story.  Of course I want to get my voice out there, because yes, I read but I also write.
